How many Christmas lights for my tree? It’s the most common question I get asked. If your Christmas Tree is in a corner or against a wall you don’t necessarily need to light the entire tree. You also need to consider whether the tree is positioned near a window. Do you want to create a spectacular display of light that can be viewed from outside? It’s all about personal aesthetic choice.

Christmas Tree Lights – the options
I think the best lighting systems are the strings of 100 lights on a ten metre cord that can be connected together off one transformer. The transformers completely eliminate chord clutter and the need for power boards with multiple adapters which are not only messy but a tangled nuisance. The transformers have two arms, each with 5 connectors so it’s possible to string from 100 to 1000 lights off one adapter.
The globes are placed 10cm apart and each string of 100 lights is 10m long which is an easy length to wind through your Christmas tree.
These lights connect to either the straight line adaptor (so the lights run one after the other) or the “finger” style adaptor so the strings all run off the central adaptor and look like fingers. How to Light Your Christmas Tree
The very first thing you should do is plug in all of your Christmas lights and switch them on. It’s so much easier to create a spectacular display of light when you can see where you’re going when you’re winding the strands through the tree. I like to separate the tree into wedges and vertically divide the tree according to the number of sets of lights. Starting at the top wind the lights down one of the wedges. Winding from the top makes it easier to cover the tree evenly as well as making it really easy to remove the lights after Christmas. Continue winding the lights around the tree until you’ve used all of your sets. It takes about 10minutes to get 3 sets of lights beautifully positioned on a tree. Storage
To avoid a tangled mess of Christmas lights, I like the Wrap & Roll storage bag. It allows you to wrap up to 4 sets of lights around the reel.
LED Christmas Tree lights
The Australian Government banned the import of incandescent lights a few years ago so LED is the only option in Australia these days.
